Our deputy head of Joint Secretariat, Mr. Silvester Holop was awarded today with the István Pálfi prize by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for his extraordinary work done for the cross border region of Hungary and Slovakia.

Ms. Eszter Csókási, the CEO of Danube–Criș–Mureș–Tisa Euroregion was the other laureate of the prize this year.

Mr. Levente Magyar, Secretary of State was handing over the prizes, and also greeted the widow of Istvàn Pàlfi, Ms. Anikó Pálfi.

Congratulations to the laureates!

Pálfi István (1966-2006) was a ’member of the European Parliament who passed away tragically young. He showed extraordinary sensitivity toward the economic and social problems of border regions. Not a coincidence that he actively participated in the work of the committee prepared the European Union regulation on the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation which is the most perspective instrument for decreasing the separating effect of the borders having caused lots of conflicts in the European history. The government that came into office in 2010 founded an award in remembrance of István Pálfi which is given to a professional in every year who prominently contributed to cross-border cooperation.’1
