The purpose of KOMBI is to increase substantially the interconnectivity of the Komarno-Komarom cross-border region by launching an innovative type of cross-border public transport system. Just like for the whole programme area it holds for the greater Komarno-Komarom cross-border area too that only low level of services facilitate cross-border commuting currently. With regards to cycle traffic, the region faces 2 main challenges: accessibility of existing infrastructure (level of related services) and vital need for further infrastructure development. KOMBI will primarily address the accessibility challenge through a pioneering service development. Direct objectives: (1) developing and launching an integrated cross-border bike sharing system in 9 settlements (HU-4, SK-5) with 13 bike stand points; (2) integrating the bike sharing system into local public transport systems; (3) developing infrastructure for better serving cross-border bike traffic and bike sharing system: The newly constructed parking lot at Építők parkja in Tata will serve as an important spot for changing modalities and as a starting point for bike trips. The same holds for the newly constructed parking lot in Nesvady, which lies along a future bicycle path connecting Komarno and Nove Zamky and in the proximity of the currently constructed thermal bath complex. (4) raising awareness of target groups for using green transport solutions. The project directly contributes to SO 2.2.1 Improving cross-border public transport services. The primary target group is inhabitants in the affected border region crossing the border regularly. Beyond that visitors from the other side of the border and from neighbouring areas are targeted just as, tourists from other regions of Slovakia, Hungary and other countries. For our target groups an easy-to-use, healthy and environment friendly solution will be provided. The project runs for 24 months starting in September 2017 with a total budget of EUR 999,308.0.
