The project aims at enhancing the rural, economic and social development opportunities in the target region through its interconnection with EuroVelo6 and the EuroHorse path via complementary infrastructure - an additional section of the cycle route connecting Kravany nad Dunajom with Štúrovo on the Slovak side (18 km) and a bridle path between Pomáz and Esztergom (39 km) in Hungary. The planned routes will contribute to the mutual interconnection of several sites of natural and cultural heritage in the area, which will have a positive impact on the number of visitors in these localities as well, while also improving access to the area. Another objective is tourism development in a way that will contribute to the region’s competitiveness, welfare and economic growth, while also promoting environmental awareness and ensuring the protection of local natural attractions and national heritage. The increased visit rate will affect local small and medium enterprises as well, with the presence of cycle tourists and horse riders we can expect an increased consumption of local products and services, as well as an improvement of their quality (primarily accommodation providers, bicycle rental services, entities focused on the sphere of tourism, catering, etc.). While promoting the routes themselves the project would also like to accentuate the nearby hiking trails and natural heritage sites, as well as to popularize cycling and horse riding as a form of active leisure. An enhanced use of bicycles and horses as a means of transportation thanks to appropriate roads and marked paths will result in less people using cars in order to get from one target location to the other, therefore reducing air pollution in the area by a significant amount. The routes offer educational, entertaining and recreational opportunities while taking into account the principles of sustainability.
