The aim of the project is to increase the number of visits of the Rákóczi Castle of Borsi. The Castle of Borsi, located 3 kms from Sátoraljaújhely, in Slovakia, is a significant cultural heritage protection site: it is a beautiful piece of renaissance architecture in Southern Slovakia and the birthplace of Prince Ferenc Rákóczi II. The reconstruction of the Castle is in process financed by the State of Hungary that includes the renewal of the building by spring 2021, the establishment of a permanent exhibition, a catering facility and an accommodation site. The Interreg project aims to renew the Castle Park and create tourist attractions to increase visits in the historical site. As a joint result of the two projects 22.500 visitors are expected initially. There will be a joint cooperation with the Local Authority of Sátoraljaújhely, controlling body of the Zemplén Adventure Park, the most frequently visited attraction of the region. The aim of the partnership is to channel visitors to Borsi. Project objectives will be reached by the development of the following tourist attractions: 1) Virtual reality (VR) experience in the Castle whereby visitors would be able to relive the days of the Rákóczi era. 2) Establishment of an escape room as a supplementary service to the present exhibition, through which visitors could deepen their historical knowledge in a fun and interactive way. 3) Renewal of the Castle Park, establishment of a nature trail, introduction of an orchard and vegetable garden of the era, creation of a Rákóczi themed playground. A walking path will also be created between the Castle and the port of Borsa on the bank of Bodrog. 4) Popularisation of the Castle by projection mapping visual events in Sátoraljaújhely. 5) Experience-based cycling on the bank of Ronyva between Sátoraljaújhely and the Castle by installing electric bikes and dock terminals. 6) Placement of panoramic binoculars on Szárhegy mountain in Sátoraljaújhely pointing to the Castle.
