The analysis of the project shed light on a general problem of the border area which is the lack of a sufficient and adequate system of processing plants as well as low level of capacities. Subsequently, this project aims to serve the general goals of TAPE (such as reducing unemployment and increasing the standard of living of people in the cross- border area) by increasing the added value of the agroproducts and by increasing the capacities for higher level of processing. This will be done through the cooperation of two project partners: while one will establish a cabbage pickling plant where a higher quantity and quality of local products will be produced, the other will create a space where the process of the production of local products and the potential buyers can meet. Apart from boosting the production of cross-border products, the main result of the project will be the creation of new working places which are strongly needed by the inhabitants of the microregion many of them long-term unemployed. It is hoped that the project will assist in restoring the region’s previous role as the ‘pantry’ of Košice and thus benefiting not only the local people and SMEs but also the wider region.
